“DPA esteems COH an early pioneer in Singapore in the disability service sector that has provided the impetus for the inception and growth of similar organisations caring for persons with disabilities,” explained Ms Asha Karen, DPA’s Advocacy Consultant. They were very keen to help COH raise funds through the flag day.

DPA saw the event as an opportunity to work together with COH to promote a more inclusive society for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). It is DPA’s mission is to be a voice for PWDs whilst working with them to achieve full participation and equal status in the society through independent living.

The Disabled People’s Association (DPA) decided to participate at COH’s Jubilee Flag Day on 28 November 2015 after learning about it from the National Council of Social Services’ website.

Asha enthused, “It was a good memorable experience for us. People from different walks of life contributed money to cover COH’s daily operations and programmes and we were able to raise awareness about the work with with special needs people.”
Members of the public gave generously. Their positive attitude to PWDs was significant for the DPA team capping 30 years of fruitful advocacy work for PWDs, inspiring the spirit of empathy amongst the public.

Samuel Koh, Executive Director of COH, was touched by DPA’s offer of assistance. He says, “Thank you DPA for your love for people with special needs. We deeply appreciate your partnership and look forward to working with you at future events.”
